The Venus Transit 2004

... the Gallery!

Venus Transit by Niall (6 years)

Niall (6 years)
(Neuperlach, Germany)

The Venus Transit was watched by millions of people and among them, children of all ages. Several months before this rare event, it was decided to provide them with the opportunity to display their drawings of the event at the VT-2004 "Gallery".

We asked: "What would be your impression when you thought about the Venus Transit? Do you think of the planet and its star, our Sun? The cosmic clockwork that keeps Venus in its orbit over billions of years? The people who travelled to distant shores in past centuries to make observations? The fun of observing the transit on June 8th?"

Indeed, over 400 drawings were received! They were mostly from young observers in many different European countries. Most of them were delivered soon after June 8th, when the unique experience was still fresh in the minds of the artists.

Among them, fifty-two were rewarded with original "VT-2004 T-Shirts"! Moreover, the VT-2004 organisers also decided to give special recognition to all school classes which participated by submitting drawings to the VT-2004 Gallery. Each of these classes received one set of the beautiful ESO Posters. See the winning entries on this page, together with a list of the schools.

The many drawings are displayed on these pages (25 on each) - click on the drawings to see them in a larger size:
