pipeline: reduction cascade | |||||
|
The SINFONI calibration scheme requires careful consideration of interdependencies between raw and product calibration files. The calibration products have to be processed step by step. Hence this scheme is called a calibration cascade.
All products can be obtained without calibration frames. This is the pipeline operational mode on Paranal. A stack of science jittered images can be submitted to the jitter recipe without further calibration files like a twilight flat, a dark, and/or a bad pixel map. The results might be of lesser quality and instrumental effects might be less well extracted, but from the operational point of view the jitter recipe as well as all other eclipse SINFONI recipes would not fail or stop execution.
For QC in Garching all frames of an observing night are available for the data reduction, hence data reduction ban be performed using qc-check, closest in time and best calibrations for the data reduction.
In quick-look mode on Paranal, the SINFONI pipeline has a fixed set of calibration products which are static. Hence these dependencies are not properly respected. The calibration solutions processed by QC Garching do respect the cascade. Together with quality checking, this results in the optimum possible products.
The flux standard stars are not part of this scheme since their processing is identical to that of science frames as far as the requirements for existing calibration products are concerned. They are therefore treated in the science reduction scheme.
