This section of the Quality Control and Data Flow Operations web pages deals with multi-object spectroscopy using UVES as part of FLAMES. This mode of UVES is called UVES-MOS within these pages. Other designations are UVES-Fibre or FLAMES-UVES. Information regarding UVES as a single-object spectrograph can be found here.

All UVES-MOS Service Mode data pass Quality Control Garching. Science data for Visitor Mode runs are presently not processed.

NOTE: On 1 April 2004, the format of the UVES-MOS (red UVES) raw files has been changed: the new format is a fits file with two extensions, one for each detector, i.e. the two red CCD images are now splitted. Note that the new format cannot be processed with pipelines prior to version 2.1. Newer pipelines are able to handle both the new and the old format. The format of the pipeline products has not been changed.

More information on the FLAMES instrument, especially all technical aspects, can be found on the FLAMES web pages. User's Manuals for FLAMES and UVES are available; information on downloading software for data reduction (pipeline) can be found here.
