ELT exhibition at ESO Headquarters

ESO staff members visit the special Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) exhibition set up at the ESO Headquarters storage hall for the ESO Council's visit in December 2010. The exhibition presented ELT prototypes and scale models. In this picture is a model of one of the nearly one thousand hexagonal segments which will compose the 40-metre-class primary mirror of the ELT. Each segment will be about 1.4 metres across and just 5 cm thick.
