ALMA's snowy mountains

ESO's Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) is situated more than 5000 metres above sea level in the Chilean desert, on the Chajnantor plateau. Occasionally, a sparse flurry of snow will fall onto the desert floor and the mountains in the distance, providing a wintry look to the facility. These antennas are pointed towards the brilliant sky, preparing to do some observing.
