ALMA panorama

ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimetre/Submillimeter Array, is located on the breathtaking Chajnantor Plateau, at an altitude of 5000 metres in the Chilean Andes. Chajnantor means "place of departure" in the Kunza language of the Atacameño people that lived there and named this plateau. This plateau is the highest major observatory site in the world, and the atmosphere above its is the driest in the world, with the exception of Antarctica.
