Sunset behind the VLT

The four Unit Telescopes of ESO's Very Large Telescope are seen in this beautiful drone image, looking up to the wonderful Chilean skies.

Sat on top of the Cerro Paranal mountain, Paranal Observatory is situated in what is thought to be the driest area on Earth — an ideal location to observe the skies with as little interference from moisture in the atmosphere as possible.

Behind Paranal, Cerro Armazones can be seen raising its head near the horizon, mysteriously aligned with the shadow of Paranal infront.
