Lit up by the Moon

This image shows the Moon shining brightly over the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). These are just a few of the 66 antennas that make up ALMA, which collects light at millimetre and sub-millimetre wavelengths. ALMA sits on the breathtaking Chajnantor Plateau, at an altitude of 5000 metres in the Chilean Andes. This is one of the most extreme high desert climates in the world — some parts have not seen a single drop of rain in hundreds of thousands of years.
