The zodiacal light

This fish-eye fulldome view displays the arm of the Milky Way, with a glow known as the zodiacal light infusing the sky. One of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) telescopes is brightly illuminated in the foreground. It is one of 66 such telescopes, which work together to simulate a giant, single telescope much larger than any that could actually be built. ALMA is situated in the Atacama desert of northern Chile, which provides high and dry conditions crucial to such observations.
