Neighbours in the Atacama Desert

At around 3000 metres elevation in the Chilean Atacama Desert, ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) neighbours the newly inaugurated Rolf Chini Cerro Murphy Observatory, run by the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CAMK). The proximity means that resources, such as access roads and fibre optic cables, will be shared, as well as the pristine desert skies.
