APEX at night
The APEX Telescope under the starry sky, at an altitude of 5100 metres on the Chajnantor plateau, in the Chilean Andes. APEX, the Atacama Pathfinder Experiment, is a 12-metre antenna that observes the Universe at millimetre and submillimetre wavelengths. In the background on the right is the 5600-metre-high Cerro Chajnantor.
