On Cerro Armazones
Panoramic view of the top of the 3046-metre mountain which will host the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT). The selected site is called Cerro Armazones and is located some 120 km south from Antofagasta, in the II Region of Chile and only 20 km away from Cerro Paranal, home of the ESO Very Large Telescope (VLT). This area of the Chilean Atacama desert, in the Coastal Mountain range, offers excellent conditions for ground-based astronomy.
This panorama was taken by ESO Photo Ambassador Serge Brunier.
