The unusual tails of comet Hale-Bopp
Comet Hale-Bopp photographed with the ESO 1-metre Schmidt Telescope on January 4, 1998 on a red-sensitive film/filter combination (Kodak 4415 + RG630), recording the comet's light in the 6300-7000 A spectral interval. The exposure lasted 2 hours; the seeing was very good (0.8 arcsec). Observer: Guido Pizarro.
