APEX Image Calendar, March 2010 — Penitent Ice

On the dry Chajnantor plateau near the APEX telescope, ice and snow form strange straight shapes, reminiscent of cave rock structures. The sunlight will  eventually melt them away, leaving the area as dry as ever.
