Video News Release (B-roll): La Silla Observatory (eso0915j)

The discovery of planet “e”, about twice the mass of the Earth, and “d”, where liquid water could exist, is the outcome of more than four years of observations using the most successful low-mass exoplanet hunter in the world, the HARPS spectrograph. HARPS is mounted on the ESO 3.6-metre telescope at the La Silla Observatory in Chile. La Silla, ESO’s first observatory, is also hosting other medium-sized telescopes such as the 3.5m New Technology Telescope, and the 2.2m ESO/MPG telescope, as well as several smaller systems.

This Video News Release is targeted especially at broadcasters for further editing. In order to keep the audio tracks editable, different sound information has been recorded on two separate tracks at optimal volumes as is common standard in professional post production. This video is not meant for on screen viewing — on ESOcasts are better suited for that.
