The original ESO Headquarters building and the ESO Supernova Planetarium & Visitor Centre take centre stage in this incredible aerial image, captured by an ultralight plane.

This spectacular shot reveals the sleek, curved design of the ESO Headquarters building, in addition to highlighting the unique structure of the ESO Supernova. The ESO Supernova resembles the form of a binary star system transferring mass from one component to the other, which will lead to a supernova.

The black, rounded building in the top right hand corner of this picture is the technical building, where work on new instruments is carried out.
