ESO and Enel Green Power announced the entry into service of the La Silla solar photovoltaic plant in northern Chile on 23 September 2016. Named after ESO’s La Silla Observatory, this new photovoltaic solar plant will supply the astronomical observatory with clean energy through a power purchase agreement. At the centre (the eighth from left to right) is His Excellency Máximo Pacheco Matte, Chilean Ministry of Energy. Immediately on the right Claudio Ibáñez, Intendent of the Coquimbo Region and His Excellency the Spanish Ambassador in Chile, Carlos Robles. With the blue helmet is Giorgio Filippi, ESO Project Manager of La Silla Photovoltaic Plant. Other distinguished guests and representatives of Enel and Soltec are also standing in front of the plant.
