ALMA Early Science, Massive Star Formation workshop

ESO Garching, 8 April, 2011

Workshop Motivation

ALMA commissioning is proceeding rapidly and the observing timeline for Early Science has been announced -- the call for proposals will likely be on March 30th, with the proposal deadline on June 30th. With these deadlines fast approaching, we are organizing a workshop with the aim of providing a place for members of the European massive star formation community to get together to discuss ideas for potential ALMA Early Science projects.

Workshop Date

The workshop date of April 8th was chosen to be shortly after the call for ALMA Early Science proposals so full details of the array capabilities during Early Science will be known. This timing also means the workshop will follow directly after the ALMA Community Days at ESO Garching (6th and 7th of April). At the community days there will be talks/discussions outlining the ALMA Early Science specifications, proposal preparation process, data reduction etc. For those planning to attend the community days, this will be useful for informing the technical aspects of the proposals.

Meeting Format

The meeting format is designed to match the goal of the workshop -- to provide an informal place to share ideas and develop collaborations. To facilitate this, when registering, participants can provide a brief description of the ideas they would like to share and put forward for discussion. These descriptions will be used to organize sessions by science topic and each participant can give a short (<5 minute) presentation outlining their idea. Plenty of time will be left for discussion and break out rooms will be available.

Registration and Contact Details

The general contact email address is "slongmor-at-eso.org". Registration is now open. Please send an email to the contact address with a brief description of any ideas you wish to share/discuss. In order to finalize the program and logistics, we would appreciate responses by the 18th of March.
