In this page, you will find all the manuals needed to prepare your observations with AMBER. Please be sure to download that corresponding to the period in which the observations will take place. For documentation on the AMBER data reduction check out the Tools section.

AMBER User's Manual

All the informations about the instrument itself, its modes and their characteristics.
  • Period 87, to be used for the P87 call for proposal, deadline September 30, 2010.
  • Period 88, to be used for the P88 call for proposal, deadline March 31st, 2011.
  • Period 89, to be used for the P89 call for proposal, deadline September 29, 2011.
  • Period 90, to be used for the P90 call for proposal, deadline March 31st, 2012.
The VLTI User Manual is to be used in addition to the AMBER manual for VLTI aspects and limits common to all instruments:

AMBER Data Reduction Manual

The supported AMBER Data Reduction Software (DRS) is available from the AMBER consortium and the JMMC, and can be downloaded from http://www.mariotti.fr/data_processing_amber.htm. At the same place, the AMBER DRS documentation is available. It includes a general description of the data reduction, a presentation of the software, a cookbook so that you can experiment the data reduction on actual data, and a section with frequently-asked-questions.
