ESO дарує КрАО книги із нагоди свого 50 річчя

21 червня 2012 року в Кримській Астрофізичній Обсерваторії (КрАО) [1] відбулася зустріч інформаційного представника ESO в Україні Олега Малого із науковцями. В ході зустрічі учасники почули коротку історію про ідею Вальтера Бааде та Яна Оорта щодо створення європейської астрономічної обсерваторії для дослідження південної півкулі, про підписання 5 жовтня 1962 р. Конвенції ESO Бельгією, Німеччиною, Францією, Нідерландами та Швецією.
Дуже швидко виступ перетворився на живу бесіду із слухачами, в ході якої науковці запитували та коментували почуте. В їх числі були астрономи, котрі на початку 1970-х приймали участь в експедиції пошуків місця для організації південної радянської обсерваторії в Чилі [2].
Далі був огляд телескопів обсерваторій ESO Ла Сілла і Паранал. Олег розповів про перший у світі 3.5 м NTT - телескоп із адаптивним дзеркалом, про “мисливця на екзопланети” HARPS на 3.6 м телескопі, за допомогою якого було відкрито систему екзопланет навколо зорі Gliese 581. Також було згадано про 2.2 м телескоп MPG/ESO із його 67 Мпк камерою та про те, що російський аматор астрономії Ігор Чекалін виборов головний приз та поїздку на Паранал, обробивши дані від цього телескопа в рамках конкурсу обробки астрономічних зображень ESO’s Hidden Treasures 2010 [3].
Слухачів зацікавили опис та можливості Дуже Великого Телескопа (VLT) ESO, інтерферометра VLTI, та оглядових телескопів VLT і VISTA.
Потім була розповідь будівництво та роботу унікального телескопа ALMA на високогірному (висота 5 км) плато Чахнантор.
В завершення офіційної частини прозвучала інформація про початок програми Європейського Надзвичайно Великого Телескопа (E-ELT) - найбільшого в світі "ока у небо". E-ELT буде 39.3 м сегментованим дзеркальним телескопом, розташованим на горі Армазонес, котра на півночі Чілі поблизу обсерваторії ESO Паранал.
Опісля вступного слова була коротка презентація книг та періодики від ESO та передача їх в дарунок науковій бібліотеці КрАО [4].
Співробітники виказали ESO свою вдячність за її дарунок.
