Bekanntgabe der Gewinner der Stipendien für das erste ESO-Astronomiecamp
Die ESO vergibt zusätzliche kostenfreie Teilnahmen

Die Ausschreibung zum ersten astronomischen Camp der ESO für Schüler weiterführender Schulen wurde mit 170 Anträgen aus 23 Ländern abgeschlossen und die Sieger der 12 Stipendien, die von der ESO und den nationalen Partnern getragen werden, wurden ausgewählt. Das Camp, in Zusammenarbeit mit der ESO dem ESO Science Outreach Network von Sterrenlab organisiert, wird vom 26. bis 31. Dezember 2013 am astronomischen Observatorium von Aosta Valley, gelegen in Saint Barthelemy in Italien (Region Nus) stattfinden.
Das Camp wird etwa 50 Schüler im Alter von 16 bis 18 Jahren aus den ESO Mitgliedsländern und den Ländern des ESO ESO Science Outrerach Network beherbergen. Unter ihnen wurden neun Teilnehmer als Stipendiaten ausgewählt, denen die gesamten Kosten des Campaufenthalts inklusive der Anreise erstattet werden. Drei weiteren wurden Zuschüsse bewilligt.
Die ESO wollte ursprünglich nur ein Stipendium anbieten, aber die vielen Anträge aus Brasilien und Polen und deren ausgezeichnete Qualität überzeugten die ESO-Organisatoren ausnahmsweise zwei zusätzliche Stipendien für die besten Anträge aus jedem dieser Länder zu gewähren. Die Sieger der drei ESO-Stipendien sind: Hera Protopapas Wettergren (16 Jahre, Schweden) für ihre entschlossenen und talentierten Antrag, Lucas Carvalho Cordeiro (17 Jahre, Brasilien) für seinen anspruchsvollen Plan um „die Herzen der Brasilianer mit dem Licht des Kosmos zu entflammen“ und seine Kreativität sowie Maciej Garbacz (17 Jahre, Polen) für seine beeindruckenden Aktivitäten auf dem Gebiet der Astronomie.
Die folgenden neun Stipendien wurden von nationalen Partnern in den ESO-Mitgliedsländern vergeben:
- von der INAF (dem italienischen nationalen Institut für Astrophysik) und der Universität Mailand zwei kostenfreie Reisen für Sara Sieni (17 Jahre) und Edoardo Altamura (17 Jahre)
- von der spanischen Sociedad Espanola de Astronomia eine kostenfreie Reise für Patricia Vicente (16 Jahre) und Zuschüsse für die folgenden Teilnehmer: Ariadna Albors Zumel (17 Jahre), Miguel Angel Garcia Valverde (16 Jahre) und Andrés López Moreno (16 Jahre)
- Von der Universität Genf eine kostenfreie Reise für Isabella Giulia (18 Jahre)
- Von der polnischen astronomischen Gesellschaft und der “Urania – Postępy Astronomii” eine kostenfreie Reise für Kamila Ulatowska (18 Jahre) und vom polnischen Kinderfonds eine kostenfreie Reise für Katarzyna Budzik (18 Jahre)
