Celebrating the arrival of green power at La Silla

On 23 September 2016 ESO and Enel Green Power inaugurated the La Silla solar photovoltaic plant in the Coquimbo Region of Chile. In the picture we see the traditional cutting of the tricolour ribbon at the inaugural ceremony, celebrated at ESO’s La Silla Observatory. From left to right: Claudio Ibáñez, Intendent of the Coquimbo Region, Victor Tapia, Deputy Mayor of La Higuera, His Excellency Máximo Pacheco Matte, Chilean Minister of Energy, Fernando Comerón, ESO Representative in Chile and Salvatore Bernabei, Enel’s Head of Renewable Energies Latin America. Named after ESO’s La Silla Observatory, this new photovoltaic solar plant will supply the astronomical observatory with clean energy through a power purchase agreement.
