Girls' Day am ESO-Hauptsitz in Garching
Die nächste Frauengeneration zu einer Karriere in Wissenschaft und Technologie inspirieren

Die ESO beteiligt sich am 23. April 2015 am deutschlandweiten Girls‘ Day. Bei dieser jährlich stattfindenden Veranstaltung öffnen technische Unternehmen, Universitäten und Forschungsorganisationen ihre Pforten speziell für Schülerinnen, um ihnen einen Einblick in wissenschaftliche und technologische Berufe zu geben, um sie zu ermutigen, eine Karriere in diesen Berufsfeldern anzustreben.
Am Girls‘ Day zeigen wir, woran bei der der ESO gearbeitet wird und mit welchen Themen unsere Mitarbeiter in ihrem Arbeitsalltag beschäftigt sind: astrophysikalische Forschung, mechanische Konstruktion, optische Integration oder die Entwicklung neuester Technologien. Das Programm beinhaltet einen einführenden Vortrag, einen Rundgang durch die wichtigsten Labore der ESO und Workshops mit Experimenten aus den Bereichen Astronomie und Ingenieurswesen, bei denen sich auch die Gelegenheit bietet Fragen zu diesen Berufsfeldern zu stellen.
Die Schülerinnen erfahren, wie astrornomische Instrumente gebaut und getestet werden und lernen, wie man astronomische Daten aufnimmt und mit ihrer Hilfe versucht, die großen offenen Fragen der astronomischen Forschung zu beantworten. So bekommen die Schülerinnen einen Einblick in die Arbeit der Astornomen und Ingenieuren bei der ESO.
Um den Einblick in die Arbeit der ESO abzurunden, wird es eine Videoübertragung zum weltweit produktivsten astronomischen Observatorium geben, dem Very Large Telescope (VLT) der ESO. Die Girls‘ Day-Teilnehmerinnen werden live mit einem ESO-Astronomen sprechen können, der 11.000 Kilometer entfernt in der Atacamawüste in Chile auf dem Cerro Paranal auf 2600 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel arbeitet.
Die Plätze für diese Veranstaltung sind begrenzt. Registrieren könnt ihr euch über die Girls‘ Day-Webseite. Die Vorträge und Workshops werden in deutscher Sprache abgehalten.
