Colourful VLT panorama
This stunning panorama by ESO Photo Ambassador, Babak Tafreshi, shows a very colourful night sky over Cerro Paranal, home to ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT). The prominent constellation of Orion can be seen with its striking belt which points down to Sirius (the brightest star in the night sky) and one of the 1.8-metre Auxiliary Telescopes (ATs). A hint of the Orion nebula and the red supergiant, Betelgeuse can also be seen. To the right of the image is the bright, Large Magellanic Cloud.
