Starry skies over Paranal
Star trails and the unmistakable beam of a laser are captured over ESO's Very Large Telescope, situated atop the Paranal Observatory in northern Chile. As the Earth rotates on its axis the cosmos appears to move across the sky — a long exposure reveals the paths various stars take.
