Atacama Desert Panorama

This landscape panorama shows the arid, desert terrain of the Atacama Desert, home to the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and ESO's La Silla and Paranal Observatories — the latter of which can be seen atop Cerro Paranal in the upper left corner.

This region will also soon be home to the largest optical/near-infrared telescope in the world, ESO's Extremely Large Telescope (ELT).
