Lunar illumination
The Unit Telescopes of ESO's Very Large Telescope are illuminated by the light of the Moon as they sit atop Cerro Paranal in this shot from the Chilean Atacama Desert.
Captured from the road that leads to the VISTA telescope at the Paranal Observatory, this skyscape reveals the splendor of the spectacular star-studded southern sky in addition to a faint red and green radiance (seen to the left of the image) which is a luminescence known as airglow.
