Mirror maintenance at Paranal
The image peers inside the Mirror Maintenance Building at ESO's Paranal Observatory. The gigantic 8.2-metre mirrors of ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) occasionally need cleaning and recoating to keep them in pristine condition. The circular machine seen here performs this delicate task.
