The Call for Proposals for observations at ESO telescopes during Period 95 (1 April - 30 September 2015) has been released. Please consult the Call for Proposals document for the main news items and policies related to applying for time on ESO telescopes. All technical information about the offered instruments and facilities is contained on ESO webpages that are linked from the Call. The deadline for proposals is 12:00 CEST 01 October 2014.

Proposers for Large Programmes should note that Boxes 6 and 7 of the LaTeX template have been revised in Period 95. In particular PIs should take care to include a detailed delivery plan for the publication of science data products through the ESO Archive.

Important changes for Period 95

  • The second-generation VLT instrument, SPHERE (Spectro-Polarimetric High-contrast Exoplanet REsearch), is undergoing commissioning and is offered for the first time in Period 95.
  • The VLT Imager and Spectrometer for mid Infrared VISIR is also offered in Period 95, subject to successful recommissioning.
  • OmegaCAM on the VLT Survey Telescope (VST) is available for Normal Programme proposals for the first time. However in order to ensure minimal impact on ongoing Public Survey programmes, Normal proposals are restricted to poor observing conditions (i.e., no moon constraints, seeing ~1.4 arcseconds).
  • All the VLTI instruments are unavailable in Period 95 due to preparatory activities related to the second-generation VLTI instruments, Gravity (the K-band high precision narrow angle astrometry and phase-referenced interferometric imager) and MATISSE (the Multi AperTure mid-Infrared SpectroScopic Experiment).
  • On APEX, the new 350 μm camera, ARTEMIS will be commissioned in June 2015. If commissioning is delayed, then ARTEMIS programmes will be carried out by SABOCA.
SuperCam (329-360 GHz) is an APEX PI instrument that will be commissioned in November 2014 and likely only be available in late April 2015.
