VLT Science Verification

An integral part of the commissioning of a new instrument at the VLT is the Science Verification phase. SV programmes will include a set of typical scientific observations that should verify and demonstrate to the community the capabilities of the new instrument in the operational framework of the VLT Observatory. Please refer to the VLT Science Verification Policy and Procedures document for details.

Upcoming Science Verifications

Science Verification programmes for the following VLT instruments and/or VLTI instruments are planned in 2009.

  • VISTA Science Verification.: VISTA Science Verification will likely take place in the fall of 2009. The VISTA SV plan is currently under revision. Information about the previous VISTA SV plan is available here. Detailed information about the ESO Public Surveys with VISTA can be found through the VISTA Public Surveys web site.
