Viertes Astronomiecamp der ESO für Schülerinnen und Schüler weiterführender Schulen
Gewinne einen Astronomie-Trip in die Alpen

Die Europäische Südsternwarte (ESO) und sein Science Outreach Network unterstützen Sterrenlab und das Osservatorio Astronomico della Regione Autonoma Valle d'Aosta (OAVdA) bei der Durchführung des vierten Astronomiecamps der ESO. Das Camp wird vom 26. Dezember 2016 bis zum 1. Januar 2017 im Aostatal in Italien stattfinden.
Thema des Camps ist "Das sichtbare und das unsichtbare Universum". Hierzu wird es verschiedene astronomische Veranstaltungen geben, darunter Vorlesungen, Experimente und nächtliche Beobachtungen mit Teleskopen und Instrumenten am Observatorium. Soziale und wintersportliche Aktivitäten und Exkursionen werden das Camp für die Teilnehmer zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis machen. Die ESO und OAVdA sind für das wissenschaftliche Programm verantwortlich und werden zusammen mit weiteren Partnern die Vorlesungen organisieren und das Kursmaterial zur Verfügung stellen.
Zu den Highlights des diesjährigen Programms zählen die Verwendung eines Spektrografen, Vorträge von ESO-Astronomen und ein Ausflug zum Matterhorn.
Die Teilnahmegebühr von 500€ beinhaltet die komplette Unterkunft in der Jugendherberge Saint Barthélemy, die Betreuung durch professionelle Mitarbeiter, alle astronomischen und sonstigen Aktivitäten, Materialien, Exkursionen, Transportkosten während des Camps und Versicherungen. Zwischen dem Flughafen von Mailand Malpensa und dem Observatorium wird ein Bustransfer angeboten. Nicht in der Gebühr enthalten ist die Anreise vom Heimatort der Teilnehmer bis nach Mailand oder Saint Barthelemy.
Die maximale Teilnehmerzahl liegt bei 56 Schülern weiterführender Schulen im Alter von 16 bis 18 (Geburtsjahre 1998–2000) aus ESO-Mitgliedsländern und Ländern des ESO Science Outreach Network. Eine limitierte Anzahl an Plätzen wird für Schüler aus anderen Ländern verfügbar sein.
Schüler, die am Camp teilnehmen möchten, müssen bis zum 4. Oktober 2016 das Anmeldeformular auf der Camp-Webseite ausfüllen und ein Video zum Thema "Ich würde am liebsten ... entdecken/erfinden, weil..." einreichen, das auf Englisch verfasst sein muss und nicht länger als drei Minuten dauern sollte.
Für den Teilnehmer oder die Teilnehmerin mit der besten Bewerbung aus den ESO-Mitgliedsländern übernimmt die ESO sämtliche Kosten inklusive der An-/Abreise. Einige weitere nationale Partner werden außerdem die besten Bewerbungen von Schülern aus dem jeweiligen Land finanziell unterstützen. In den kommenden Monaten können also weitere Fördermöglichkeiten hinzukommen.
Die Auswahl der Kandidaten und auch der Stipendiengewinner wird am 16. Oktober stattfinden. Die Teilnahmebestätigung wird bis zum 30. Oktober versandt. Die Auswahlkriterien und weitere Informationen für die Teilnehmer sind auf der Camp-Webseite zu finden.
