Some of us are looking at the stars

The four Unit Telescopes (UT) of ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) sit under the sky at the Paranal Observatory. From left to right, they are: UT1 (Antu), UT2 (Kueyen), UT3 (Melipal) and UT4 (Yepun). From here they observe the night sky and help astronomers to better understand the Universe. Each UT has a main mirror 8.2 metres in diameter, putting them among the largest single-mirror telescopes in the world. Individually they can see objects four billion times fainter than what can be seen with the unaided eye, and in combination they form the VLT, the world's most advanced optical instrument.
