Watching over Chajnantor
Patches of snow litter the ground in this panorama of Chajnantor plateau, 5000-m up in the Chilean Andes. The dry desert landscape is interrupted in the distance by the huddle of radio dishes comprising the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). Multiple snow-topped peaks can be seen in the background.
