Deserted

The recently-completed ALMA Residencia stands about 2900 metres above sea level in the Atacama Desert in Chile, still over 2000 metres lower than the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), which sits on the breathtaking Chajnantor Plateau. The ALMA Residencia provides accommodation to staff and astronomers visiting to study the Universe with ALMA, and was carefully designed, integrating local materials such as stone, copper and volcanic rock, to meld easily with the desert surroundings.
