La Silla ridge
A view of La Silla ridge, taken toward the west, from the current Swedish ESO 15-metre Submillimetre Telescope (SEST, 1987-2003) site. This picture was taken before the SEST was built. From left to right are: the Grand Prism Objectif (GPO) Telescope; the ESO 1-m Photometric Telescope; the ESO 1.52-metre Telescope and the ESO 1-metre Schmidt Telescope. Next are the astronomers' quarters and the water tanks. This peak is now the site of the New Technology Telescope (NTT), inaugurated in 1989. A few purple flowers known as "Patas de Guanaco" are also visible.
