Prefocal station rendering

This image shows a rendering of the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) prefocal station.

This 12 metre high structure's three main functions include correcting the telescope’s alignment, keeping the segmented M1 mirror working as one and distributing light to the telescope's instruments.

The ELT will be the largest optical/near-infrared telescope in the world: "the world's biggest eye on the sky".
