VLT control building

His picture shows the Control Building at the Paranal Observatory in front of the rising Milky Way. This building is the true hub of the Paranal Observatory and it is from here that the VLT telescopes and instruments are controlled by the observing teams. All four Unit telescopes and also the auxiliary telescopes of the Observatory, as well as the attached instruments are controlled through a gigantic series of computers, which fill a full room underneath the control room.

The Control Building itself is located on a "shelf" below the main observing platform at the top of the Paranal Mountain.
