Dwarfed by mountains

While inhospitable to humans, Chajnantor plateau in northern Chile is the perfect place for millimetre/submillimetre astronomy, such as employed in the Atacama Large Millimetre/submillietre Array (ALMA). Some of the telescope's antennas can be seen as tiny specks near the bottom of the photo.

The extreme 5000-m altitude, combined with the very arid environment, makes for some glorious landscape shots.
