DG Tim de Zeeuw

Tim de Zeeuw, whose ten-year service as ESO Director General started in September 2007, was born in the Netherlands. His research concentrates on the formation, structure and dynamics of galaxies, including our own, the Milky Way. Here he is in front of an array of pictures featuring ESO's Paranal Observatory, APEX (featuring striking ice and snow formations known as penitentes), the ALMA array, and an artist's depiction of the ELT, inside the ESO building in Garching.
