April - Milky Way over one of the VLT’s Auxiliary Telescopes

The southern night sky in this image shows the Milky Way over Paranal, home of the VLT. The open dome of one of the VLT’s Auxiliary Telescopes stands in the foreground. The galactic bulge of our home galaxy can be seen hanging just above the horizon, with clouds of dust obscuring much of the light coming from within our galaxy. Red regions in the sky correspond to hydrogen gas clouds while nearby stars appear blue.
