ESO Calendar 2010

ESO has again produced a calendar for the year 2010, with beautiful astronomical images, unique pictures of ESO' s telescopes and breathtaking landscapes.

Lunar phases are also indicated.

The calendar measures 49 x 49 cm and has 14 pages, with a cardboard back. It is delivered in a cardboard box.

You can see images of the individual pages here.

Cover image description: This image shows part of the second of three images featured in ESO’s GigaGalaxy Zoom project, an interactive website where online stargazers can explore extremely high resolution images of the night sky in an incredible level of detail. This image presents a vista of a region bordering on the central parts of our galactic home. Taken by Stéphane Guisard, an ESO engineer and world-renowned astrophotographer, from Cerro Paranal, home of ESO’s Very Large Telescope, this image’s beauty and clarity confirm Paranal’s sky as one of the best on the planet for astronomy. To the right, and surrounded by a rare yellow and orange reflection nebula, looms the giant star Antares. The blue region above it hosts one of the star formation regions closest to Earth, associated with the star Rho Ophiuchi. The dusty lane of our Milky Way runs obliquely through the bottom left corner of the image, dotted with bright, reddish nebulae.

This product is only available in electronic form.
