Te-laser-scope

Unit Telescope 4 (Yepun) of ESO's Very Large Telescope sends a laser up to the sky from the Paranal Observatory, which enjoys about 300 clear nights per year. The laser creates an artificial guide star as part of the Adaptive Optics system, sophisticated technology that corrects the blurring effects of Earth's atmosphere to create higher resolution images. The VLT is the world's most productive individual ground-based facility, leading to the publication of an average of more than one peer-reviewed scientific paper per day.
