Home from home

The dazzling band of our home galaxy the Milky Way arcs in the sky above the entrance to the Paranal Residencia, which serves as home to the staff and astronomers working at ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT). The Residencia has many leisure facilities, including a library, fitness centre and indoor garden, to provide a relaxing oasis amid the harsh desert environment for its inhabitants, many of whom have long working hours. They can also enjoy the breathtaking starry skies that this location offers, as exemplified in this image.
