6-stündiger Webcast mit Live-Beobachtungen am Very Large Telescope am 50. Geburtstag der ESO

Am 5. Oktober 2012 wird die Europäische Südsternwarte (ESO) im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten anlässlich des 50-jährigen Jubiläums über das Internet eine Livesendung nach dem Motto „Ein Tag im Leben der ESO˝ ausstrahlen. Dabei werden sowohl Livebeobachtungen mit dem Very Large Telescope (VLT) auf dem Cerro Paranal in der chilenischen Atacamawüste als auch spannende Vorträge von Astronomen aus dem ESO-Hauptsitz in Deutschland gezeigt. Die Öffentlichkeit ist herzlich eingeladen im Vorfeld der Veranstaltung oder während der Ausstrahlung Fragen über Facebook, Twitter oder per E-Mail zu stellen. Das Programm für den Webcast ist unten zu sehen und online verfügbar.
Zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte der ESO wird das VLT auf ein Himmelsobjekt gerichtet, das von der Öffentlichkeit ausgewählt wurde - den Nebel Thors Helm (NGC 2359). Dieser beeindruckende Nebel wurde als Teil des Gewinnspiels „Sie entscheiden was das VLT beobachtet˝ ausgewählt. Die Französin Brigitte Bailleul hat den Wettbewerb „Twittern Sie sich zum VLT!˝ gewonnen und wird zum Paranal-Observatorium nach Chile reisen, um bei den Beobachtungen zu helfen. Die Liveübertragung vom Paranal wird die Beobachtungen und die Teleskope auf dem Gipfel des Bergs in der atemberaubenden Landschaft der Atacamawüste zeigen. So können die Zuschauer Brigitte auf ihrer Traumreise begleiten.
Der Webcast wird kostenfrei per Livestream gesendet und jedermann kann ihn einfach von der Livestream-Seite der ESO aus verfolgen. Zuschauer, die dort ein Livestream-Konto erstellen und den ESO-Mitteilungen folgen, erhalten außerdem Updates und Erinnerungen für diesen und zukünftige Livestream-Veranstaltungen der ESO.
5. Oktober werden in den ESO-Mitgliedsländern an diversen Orten öffentliche Veranstaltungen mit einer Vielzahl an lokalen Aktivitäten stattfinden, die den Webcast ergänzen. Eine Liste der Veranstaltungsorte zum 50-jährigen Jubiläum der ESO ist online verfügbar.
Der Webcast wird am 5. Oktober von 11 bis 17 Uhr (MESZ) ausgestrahlt und von dem Astronomen und Moderator des ESOcast Dr J (Dr. Joe Liske von der ESO) moderiert. Zusätzlich zur Liveübertragung vom Paranal-Observatorium in Chile wird es Vorträge von Astronomen am Hauptsitz der ESO in Deutschland geben. Dabei reicht die Themenvielfalt von den modernsten Teleskopen der ESO über die neuesten Nachrichten von der vordersten Front der Forschung in der Astronomie bis zu Vorträgen darüber, wie das Leben als Astronom aussieht. Ausschnitte aus dem ESO-Jubiläumsfilm „Europe to the Stars˝ werden ebenfalls zu sehen sein. Im Laufe des Tages wird es außerdem Frage-und-Antwort-Runden sowie die Gelegenheit geben, das eigene Wissen über die ESO in einem Quiz zu testen und einige astronomische Preise zu gewinnen!
Der Webcast bietet den Zuschauern die einzigartige Gelegenheit, einen Einblick in die Arbeit des produktivsten bodengebundenen Observatoriums der Welt zu bekommen, während wir die ersten 50 Jahre der Erkundung des Südsternhimmels durch die ESO feiern.
Die Öffentlichkeit ist herzlich eingeladen, Fragen zu den Aktivitäten am Paranal-Observatorium, den Vorträgen oder allgemein über die ESO zu stellen. Sie können uns Ihre Fragen im Vorfeld oder während des Webcasts in englischer Sprache auf folgenden Wegen zukommen lassen:
- Senden Sie einen Tweet @ESO mit dem Hashtag #ESO50years
- Schreiben Sie die Frage auf Ihre Facebook-Pinnwand und taggen Sie dort die Facebook-Seite der ESO. Um eine Seite taggen zu können, müssen Sie die zuvor liken und dann @ESO Astronomy zu Ihrer Frage hinzufügen. Dann erscheint ein Menü, in dem Sie unsere Seite „ESO Astronomy˝ auswählen können. Das derzeitige Programm für den Webcast ist unten zu finden. Falls sich bis zum 5. Oktober Änderungen ergeben, werden das aktualisierte Programm und weitere Informationen auf der Webseite des Jubiläums-Webcast ergänzt. Der Webcast wird in englischer Sprache stattfinden. Da dies eine Live-Veranstaltung ist, können sich die Uhrzeiten leicht ändern.
