Para onde foram todas as estrelas?
7 de Janeiro de 2015: Nesta intrigante imagem nova do ESO parecem faltam algumas das estrelas. No entanto, o vazio negro que vemos neste campo estelar resplandecente não é na realidade um buraco, mas sim uma região do espaço cheia de gás e poeira, uma nuvem escura chamada LDN 483 (de Lynds Dark Nebula 483). Tais nuvens são o local de nascimento de futuras estrelas. O Wide Field Imager, um instrumento montado no telescópio ESO/MPG de 2,2 metros, instalado no Observatório de La Silla do ESO, no Chile, capturou esta imagem da nebulosa escura LDN 483 e do seu meio circundante.
