Star trails over La Residencia
Above ESO's Paranal Observatory and La Residencia, where visitors shelter from the harsh desert environment, star trails reveal the motion of stars across the night sky as the Earth rotates on its axis. Atop the highest peak, ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) is seen.
