The Messenger tiene un nuevo hogar digital

Luego de casi 50 años de publicaciones, la revista de ESO sobre ciencia y tecnología, The Messenger, se va al mundo digital y pasa a estar disponible de forma exclusiva por Internet, justo a tiempo para el lanzamiento de su 190.º edición.
The Messenger se publicó por primera vez en mayo de 1974 y se convirtió en un eslabón esencial entre ESO y su extensa comunidad de astrónomos. Cada publicación comparte los últimos avances técnicos y científicos, entre otros, de la organización y también otras novedades en materia de astronomía y tecnologías relacionadas que no solo están pensadas para la comunidad de ESO, sino también para el público en general, como actores políticos, periodistas, docentes, astrónomos aficionados y científicos de otros campos.
Con el paso del tiempo, tanto el alcance y el contenido de The Messenger como su distribución fueron evolucionando. Las primeras ediciones digitales comenzaron a publicarse en la década del 2000 y, desde entonces, todo el archivo de la publicación, desde 1974 hasta la actualidad, se ha subido a la base de datos de la revista. Como resultado, todos los artículos publicados en The Messenger son ahora mucho más fáciles de encontrar, usar y localizar que antes.
Este es el momento propicio para que The Messenger pase a estar disponible de forma exclusiva por Internet, en un mundo de hábitos de lectura y prácticas de publicación científica en constante mutación, y con la sustentabilidad entre las prioridades de ESO. Los lectores podrán ahora acceder tanto a las ediciones nuevas como a las más antiguas en el sitio web de The Messenger.
Esta transición coincide con el lanzamiento de la 190.º edición de The Messenger, que incluye una serie de artículos que describen los estudios que la comunidad llevará a cabo con 4MOST, un nuevo telescopio espectroscópico para múltiples objetos de cuatro metros, que ofrecerá la posibilidad de realizar estudios espectroscópicos de gran campo y alta resolución y que está actualmente en construcción en el telescopio de clase de cuatro metros VISTA (Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy), en el Observatorio Paranal de ESO. Además, los lectores podrán conocer los primeros resultados del proceso de revisión por pares distribuida para las propuestas de observación presentadas en ESO el año pasado, así como los efectos que la erupción del volcán Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha‘apai está teniendo actualmente sobre las operaciones del Observatorio Paranal.
