Lancement du nouveau site internet dédié à l’Extremely Large Telescope de l’ESO

L’ESO a lancé son nouveau site web pour fournir une abondance d’informations sur son Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), le prochain observatoire qui étudiera l’Univers depuis le désert de l’Atacama au Chili. Il est conçu pour une large audience, autant pour le grand public que pour les experts en astronomie, qui pourront s’y précipiter pour découvrir le nouveau télescope, ses instruments, et comment il contribuera à étendre notre connaissance du cosmos.
Le site web met en avant quelques unes des plus importantes questions scientifiques, auxquelles les astronomes espèrent que l’ELT permettra de répondre. En complément : des visuels du télescope à couper le souffle, sa structure périphérique et ses divers instruments et miroirs. Il présente également des faits intéressants sur l'ELT, qui sera le plus grand télescope au monde observant en lumière visible et infrarouge avec un miroir principal de 39 mètres, une partie de l'histoire de ce télescope ambitieux et complexe, ainsi qu'une chronologie de certaines des étapes les plus importantes du projet.
C’est un autre développement passionnant dans l’histoire de l’ELT qui devrait voir sa première lumière vers la fin de cette décennie. Le nouveau site web sera le moyen parfait pour rester à jour sur les futures informations liées au télescope, et pour en apprendre plus sur la science, la technologie, et les personnes qui ont contribué à son avancement.
Chaque page du site web a été soigneusement agencée, de sorte que les internautes verront d’abord les informations les plus générales : en lisant le texte au début de chaque page, ils pourront aisément acquérir une compréhension générale du projet de l’ELT, notamment des brefs aperçus de ses composants individuels, de ses instruments et programmes scientifiques. Pour plus de détails ou d’informations techniques, les internautes pourront simplement faire défiler la page vers le bas, où les détails plus spécifiques du projet – susceptibles d’être du plus grand intérêt pour les astronomes et ingénieurs - sont présentés.
Le nouveau site est « responsive », c’est-à-dire qu’il fonctionne de manière fluide sur tous les appareils : ordinateurs portables, ordinateur de bureau, smartphones, et tablettes. Il offre une expérience utilisateur informative et attrayante à tous ceux qui s'intéressent au télescope qui changera radicalement ce que nous savons de notre Univers.
Comme tout nouveau lancement de site web, il est probable qu’il y est des erreurs et problèmes techniques non détectés, et notre nouveau site web de l’ELT n’est pas une exception, malgré les tests exhaustifs antérieurs au lancement.
