O ESO no Big Science Business Forum 2020

O Big Science Business Forum 2020 (BSBF2020) trata-se do segundo evento deste tipo e está pensado para que as empresas europeias e outros investidores possam aprender mais sobre futuros investimentos e aquisições a ser feitos pelas grandes organizações europeias de ciência. O evento é organizado por um Comité de Organização Internacional constituído por 10 organizações de ciência principais, incluindo o ESO. O evento decorrerá no Centro de Desenvolvimento Tecnológico Industrial (CDTI), do Ministério da Ciência, Inovação e Universidades e CIEMAT - Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas, de 6 a 9 de Outubro de 2020 em Granada, na Espanha.
O termo “Big Science” sintetiza bem o modo como o progresso científico depende cada vez mais de projetos de grande escala, muitas vezes financiados por governos nacionais ou grupos de governos, levando a projetos de investigação científica cada vez mais colaborativos e globais. Este tipo de investigação faz-se valer de empresas, tanto grandes como pequenas, espalhadas por todo o mundo, que trabalham em áreas que vão da criogenia, aos supercondutores, materiais e electrónica e também tecnologias astronómicas pioneiras.
Espera-se a participação de cerca de 1000 pessoas, vindas principalmente das organizações e empresas europeias que pretendem entrar no mercado da Big Science. Sessões paralelas dedicadas a certos temas, reuniões individuais e uma exposição, darão aos participantes a oportunidade de:
- Aprender mais sobre as oportunidades de negócios dos próximos anos, em muitas áreas de negócio.
- Conhecer representantes das principais organizações científicas europeias e o seus fornecedores principais.
- Tomar parte em debates relacionados com as oportunidades e os desafios do mercado Big Science.
- Estabelecer redes e parcerias em reuniões de negócios, tanto entre empresas como entre empresas e clientes, e também na área geral da exposição.
- Perceber melhor as regras de aquisição de produtos, direitos de propriedade intelectual, transferências de tecnologia e como é que as empresas podem interagir com o mercado Big Science.
- Assistir a apresentações detalhadas de necessidades e aquisições futuras.
O ESO é um exemplo importante de Big Science. É parceiro no Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), a maior infraestrutura terrestre para observações no milímetro e submilímetro. A infraestrutura principal de vanguarda do ESO, o Very Large Telescope, trata-se do observatório astronómico mais avançado do mundo a operar no visível e o Extremely Large Telescope do ESO, atualmente em construção, será o maior olho do mundo virado para o céu.
Palestrantes do ESO darão um total de 9 apresentações no BSBF2020, incluindo um discurso principal que será proferido pelo Diretor Geral do ESO, Xavier Barcons.
As seguintes organizações são membros do Comité de Organização Internacional, estando envolvidas na organização do fórum: CERN (Centro Europeu de Investigação Nuclear), EMBL (Laboratório Europeu de Biologia Molecular), ESA (Agência Espacial Europeia), ESO (Observatório Europeu do Sul), ESS (European Spallation Source), ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility), XFEL europeia (X-Ray Free Electron Laser Facility), FAIR (Facility for Antriproton and Ion Research) na Europa, F4E (Fusion for Energy), ILL (Institut Laue-Langevin) e SKA (Square Kilometre Array).
